Our resident Boy Scout troop, Troop 3, held their annual troop picnic and quarterly Court of Honor at the end of June at the PLC, which included a surprise visit from Fr. Richard. The PLC provided a cool respite from the summer heat and the BBQs were put to good use serving all the gathered scouts, leaders, and family.
The troop of 31 scouts will travel to several camps and activities over the summer. Two scouts just returned from Camp Catalina on Catalina Island where they learned about scuba diving and other ocean sports. This past weekend, 14 scouts and 3 adults left for Butte Meadows for a week at Camp Lassen, working on merit badges such as kayaking, fish and wildlife, and emergency preparedness. Later in July, 5 scouts and 4 adults will travel to Bowran Lakes, Canada to experience a high adventure canoe trip into the wilds of the Boundary Waters.
To make all these experiences available, the troop together and boys individually must work to raise funds. On August 29th the troop will hold its own “Too Hot To Cook” fundraiser which offers a tri-tip dinner for 4 people. Tickets are $40, with $23 of each ticket sold going into each scout’s camping account. Each ticket may be redeemed for a whole BBQ’d tri-tip, salad, rolls, and brownie for pick up on August 29 between 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the Chico Elks Lodge.
Several of St. John’s resident scouts will be selling tickets at church. You also may see troop 3 scouts selling the tickets in the community. Please consider supporting Troop 3 and purchase a ticket for yourself or perhaps as a gift for a family.
