What Is Garden Tour?

Garden Tour on Hold This Year

This is the time of year when we ramp up our efforts in planning for our Spring Garden Tour.  However, our church community and Chico at large have been deeply impacted by the disastrous fire in Paradise and the extended region.  St. John’s campus has become the gathering place for several local Long-Term Recovery Group meetings.  We have also taken in the congregation from the Episcopal church in Paradise.   Our volunteers are pouring their hearts and resources into other needs in our community.

So, to use a gardening term, we have decided that our annual Garden Tour will “lie fallow” for 2019.

We have not come to this decision lightly.  Garden Tour has been a big part of our church and community life for 35 years. We thank you for so many years of loyalty to this project. It’s hard to imagine our spring without Garden Tour.  We will use this year to re-envision Garden Tour and plan to return next year with a new and improved version!

Thank you!

Many thanks to all who helped make Garden Tour 2018 a huge success! Whether you were a gardener, volunteer, or attendee, you made a difference. Always the first Saturday in May, it’s never too early to mark your calendars for May 4, 2019! Stay tuned for details.

We Are Always Looking For Gardens

The task of finding gardens becomes a year-round endeavor.  If you know of a garden that might be a good candidate for Garden Tour OR you would like to volunteer your garden, please call the office at 894-1971 and leave a message.

In 1983 a small group of women from our ECW organized the first tour of a few gardens. Since then this annual fund raiser, always the first Saturday in May, has evolved into a day of self-guided touring of four or five beautiful gardens and a nice luncheon at church. During lunch we offer for sale interesting plants, many grown especially for our event and others planted by church members.  Guests also have an opportunity to participate in a raffle of lovely donated items from our generous business community and parish members.  Our tour has grown to a loyal attendance of as much as 1,000 people, rain or shine!

This year marked our 35th year of Garden Tour.

Funds raised from Garden Tour are essential to our church’s many outreach programs, both locally as well as Mexico Mission, church hospitality services, and church maintenance.  The entire parish and many community businesses willingly contribute their energy and donations to this project.

Every year we give a percent of Garden Tour proceeds to local organizations.  We select our community recipients each year in December.

Thank you for attending our Garden Tour and helping us serve the community. We rejoice that so much is accomplished by all of us working together, God being our helper!
