Youth and Children

Matthew 19:14

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Children and youth are an integral part of our church community and we are committed to helping them grow to be Christians in faith, knowledge, service and action.

Children’s Ministry at St John’s is intergenerational.  We believe our community of faith is responsible for raising up the child.  Our community provides the “why” we volunteer on a faith level. We believe children need to experience the reverent and the quiet as well as the joy of fellowship. We honor the Sabbath to seek peace in their lives. We want them to be good stewards of the planet and walk lightly upon the earth.

In order to engage in the life of faith, we all strive to:  slow down and listen to each other, especially our stories of faith, worship and read the Bible, and experience outreach and service to the community in Christ’s Name.

To do this we have several components to our Children’s ministry:

Regarding Child Safety

The safety of children during their church experience is very important to us.  All teachers are required to have been actively attending St John’s for at least six months, provide personal references, have a criminal background check, and attend a training class on the awareness and prevention of child abuse.  Our church building has been designed with child safety and parent comfort in mind.  Our nursery, classrooms and St David’s Hall have glass walls.  Parents are encouraged to drop in and observe activities at any time.
