Vacation Bible Adventure

Sharing the Gospel with Children

For a week in early summer, St John’s is a-buzz with 30-50 children. Our kids and their friends are off on an adventure of discovery of Jesus’ love.  The program is open to kids from age 4 through 5th grade, with wonderful opportunities for leadership for older kids in drama, music, games, arts and crafts, science, Bible stories and snacks.

Vacation Bible Adventure 2016

The children of Chico were again treated this summer to a fun and inspiring Vacation Bible Adventure here at St. John’s.  Under the able leadership of Jack and Dixie Hulley, the message of “Doing the right thing,” was shared through Bible stories, songs, science demonstrations, games, crafts and good snacks.  As Jack and Dixie are so fond of saying, it was all in God’s hands.  The planning week began with “not-enough” counselors and grew to twelve.  The program blossomed too under the creativity of the Hulleys and the counselors.  The enrollment capped at 38 with two-thirds of the children being returnees from previous years. Children with Chico connections came from Livermore, Yuba City and Vacaville.  One grandma praised the program, saying the message is delivered well to the level of the children and they know what to expect.  Her grandkids loved their time here and want to return next year. The program ended today with a potluck lunch attended by over 60 people.  Families of the children are delighted to see the week in review thanks to Jack’s video presentation.  Many thanks to the many parish members who helped in so many ways, especially Gail Raleigh. VBA is another all-church event that demonstrates the spirit of St John’s.

VBA will return next year taking place at its usual week in mid July.
