St. John's is a faith community built on Christ's example of
love, service, and compassion, where all are welcome.

Our new parish Mission Statement better reflects our self-understanding and purpose as we go through these post fires/post covid times of transition in seeking a new full-time rector. The Vestry, under the leadership of diocesan missioner, Rev. Mack Olson, spent a daylong retreat on Saturday, February 17th, examining who we are and our purpose.

We discussed the differences between Mission (our reason to be) and Vision (what we hope for). Our Mission involves actions, what we do. As a result, we evaluated topics like “What is it that St. John’s does?” “What are the needs of those we interact with?” And “Why do we do it?”

From all the responses and answers listed, the group “pulled it together,” and were able to summarize it with the statement above as our finished product. A good Mission Statement has the following characteristics: succinct, positive, reflects our values, inspirational, uses verbs, emotional, memorable, and easy to remember! Vestry did a magnificent job!
