Summer Worship

Chico Summer is almost upon us, and that means vacation with friends and family, long weekends, and hot days! In preparation, we are adjusting our worship schedule, which will allow for all of us to worship together during the summer months. This will be a great savings on our PG&E bill, as well as providing some shared time to get to know each other again between the two services! Beginning June 9th through September 1st, we will have a combined service, beginning at 9:30am. Coffee hour will immediately follow. The regular 8am and 10:15am services will resume Sunday, September 8th.

To kick off the summer season, on June 2nd, we are planning on having a Parish BBQ after the 10:15 service! Watch for more details to find out how you can help.

Help Needed for Tea Party

The Afternoon English Tea scheduled for Saturday May 18th is looking for various helpers and volunteers. First, if anyone would like to make a financial donation, we would be grateful for the assistance in off-setting costs of ingredients for the baking we will be doing. Second, there is some baking of sweets (we have precise recipes that we are following) to be done and if you wish to assist let us know in the office. And third and last, we need volunteers to assist with setting up, and cleaning up. Call the office and let Sherry know how you can be of help in supporting this wonderful event.

An extra thank you:  We are so grateful to all the people who donated their tea cups and saucers for the English Tea! Thank you! Thank you! It is going to be wonderful!!!

PENTECOST SUNDAY - WEAR RED!
Need Volunteer Readers in Other Languages

Pentecost Sunday, May 19th is celebrated as we now conclude the Season of Easter. This day, as we are encouraged to wear red as  a sign of the "flames of the Holy Spirit" working through us, we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit that began with the Spirit descending upon the disciples, empowering and equipping them to proclaim the Good News to the world. We are looking for volunteers for the 10:15 AM Service that speaks another language, that we may present the first reading, Pentecost Story of the Book of Act, with the "speaking in tongues." Please let the office know by Monday, May 13th so we can work on your particular language presentation.

Graduations are Celebrated!

As a part of our Pentecost observance, Sunday, May 19th, we will honor graduates. If you have a family member graduation from High School, College, or any degree or academic program, please let us know in the office. We would like these individuals to be present with our morning worship that we may celebrate their accomplishments and bless them with all future endeavors.

Chico Art Festival
May 10th 4-8pm & May 11th 10am-4pm

This year’s 11th annual Chico ART Festival Festival will be fun-filled and full of entertainment, food and music. Held once again at the beautiful grounds of St. John’s Episcopal Church, 2341 Floral Avenue in Chico, this will be a Mother’s Day weekend extravaganza that is not to be missed.

In addition to showcasing the talent of local artists and artisans, providing children’s activities, demonstrations, food trucks and a margarita bar, on Friday the festival will feature music by Soul Posse, Cactus Avenue Jazz Quartet and Fire Dancing with Alaya Crystal Dance & Friends. Saturday features Ballet Folklorico and Los Cabillitos de la Cancion. Children’s activities provided by non-profit organizations include relief printing, art activities, kumihimo fiber braiding, drop spindle practice and table weaving. Our Sketch Out competition will be on Saturday. Check out our website at chivaa.org for full details on the performances, a current list of artists and activities.

The Chico Visual Arts Alliance (ChiVAA) has promoted local artists, educated the public about the value of art in the community and provided a perfect Mother’s Day Celebration over the past 11 years. The festival, which started as Art at the Matador, continues to celebrate Mother’s Day as the Chico Art Festival. This event is FREE TO THE PUBLIC and ample parking is provided.

Hope to see you there. Mark your calendars for Friday, May 10 and Saturday May 11.

Godly Play Wrapping Up

Godly Play is wrapping up another year of exploration and wondering. The team will be taking to summer off to rest, refresh, and refocus themselves for the fall with a couple training sessions scheduled. Our last Godly Play session before summer break will be June 2nd.

While there will not be Godly Play or another substitute “Sunday School” during the summer, the kid’s craft table will be open to children who can work quietly at the back of the church.

Godly Play will resume in the fall after Labor Day.
